About the ParishWelcome to Crediton Parish Church website!
The parish of Crediton centres around the Church of the Holy Cross, a magnificent and beautiful building with a long history. It is the house of God for the whole community and all people are welcome to come into the church for worship, prayer or simply to visit. The church seeks through its members to draw everyone into the love of Jesus Christ.
This website is intended to provide helpful information about the life of the church in Crediton as well as the history and architecture of Holy Cross Church.
Daily prayers are held in the church and there is a board for prayer requests to be left in the south choir aisle. The Sunday service times are listed on this website as are details for arranging baptisms and weddings. There are opportunities to meet for friendship, prayer and bible study in one of the church groups. Courses are run regularly at Holy Cross and are open to everyone. The Tuesday Drop-In, which runs from 10 - 11.30am at the Boniface Centre, provides a weekly opportunity to meet members of the church over coffee and biscuits and there is a programme of social activities which are open to all. The church choir and bellringers are always keen to have new members. We hope you will find a warm welcome at Holy Cross Church!
The Church is held in trust by the Governors of Crediton for the people of the parish, but its life and worship are planned by the clergy and Parochial Church Council (PCC). The council is elected annually along with the three Churchwardens who help with the running of the church. The church is supported mainly through the voluntary giving of its members. Money for the fabric of the church comes from the assets of the Governors and through the efforts of the Fabric Fundraising Committee, and most especially through the annual Flower Festival. The Friends of Crediton Church often help with projects related to church.
The Parish of Crediton is united with the adjacent parishes of Sandford and Shobrooke and there are eight churches and chapels within our benefice as well as a convent at Posbury and a cemetery chapel in Crediton. The Rector of the United Benefice, the Reverend Nigel Guthrie, was appointed in 2002. A number of retired priests share in ministry to the benefice and there is a licensed Reader, Mrs. Isolde Summers.
We are part of the wider Church of England in Exeter Diocese and work alongside other Christians in the town as part of Christians Together in Crediton (CTIC).
