The Clergy Team

The ordained and licensed ministers work with the lay people of the churches to provide ministry within the United Benefice, especially in pastoral care, the leading of worship, preaching and teaching the Christian faith.

The Rector - The Reverend Nigel Guthrie

Nigel GuthrieNigel Guthrie was appointed in 2002 as Rector of the United Benefice based on Crediton. He had previously served as Vicar of Chellaston and Rural Dean of Melbourne in Derby Diocese. Nigel was ordained deacon in Coventry in 1988 and worked at St. John the Baptist, and then Coventry Cathedral until moving to Derby in 1994. He is interested in music in worship and loves the variety and challenge of parish work.

Nigel is married to Tina, a musician and teacher, and they have two sons at primary school. He enjoys music making and is a member of Exeter Chamber Choir.
  

The Priest at Sandford - The Reverend Catherine Carlyon

Catherine CarlyonCatherine Carlyon was ordained deacon in Truro Diocese in 2002 and served there as Curate at Launceston. She appointed Chaplain among Deaf People in Exeter Diocese combined with part time priest at Sandford in June 2006. Catherine trained for ministry at Ripon College, Cuddesdon and had previously held senior nursing posts both in hospital and community settings.

Catherine enjoys playing the piano and harp and textile crafts, including spinning and weaving. She paints in watercolour and enjoys gardening, especially growing and showing sweet peas.
 

The Licensed Reader - Mrs. Isolde Summers

Isolde Summers was licensed as Reader within the Exeter Diocese to the Benefice in 2003. She was recently further authorised to take Holy Communion by Extension within the Crediton Benefice.

Isolde has, with her husband Vivian, been involved for many years in the life of the Benefice. She is Chairman of the St. Boniface Concert Society and was formerly Head of Music at Uffculme School. She is much involved with pastoral work but finds relaxation through large jig-saw puzzles and reading.
