The Revd Samuel Rowe was vicar here at Holy Cross Crediton from 1835 until his death in September 1853. He is best known for his many and varied writings and in particular for his book ‘A Perambulation of Dartmoor’ first published in 1848. He is buried in the west end of the churchyard where his tomb is now in a poor state of repair. Funds are currently being raised to repair the tomb. If anyone would like to contribute to the fund donations can be sent to Bill Jerman c/o the Parish Office, Boniface Centre, Church Lane, Crediton EX17 2AH. Cheques should be made payable to The Friends of Crediton Church. The estimated cost is £950. Further information is available from Bill at 01363 772865.
